    TLDR

SMB Attorney claimed that three hiking novices asked Gemini how to climb 14,179-ft Mount Shasta. He alleged the AI packed them for an eight-hour day, advised leaving camp at 3 a.m. and summiting by 7 p.m., and recommended simple carbs instead of fats because fats take too long to digest. He called the advice the stupidest thing he had read. Steven Sinofsky retweeted the post. Daniel Jeffries quoted it while discussing the verification problem in AI responses. Replies on X questioned trusting AI for mountain advice without checking sources.

@SMB_AttorneyThis is the stupidest thing I’ve ever read 😂 Three hiking novices asked Gemini how to climb 14,179-ft Mount Shasta. It packed them for an 8-hour day. They left camp 3 a.m. They were supposed to summit by 7 p.m. Gemini said pack simple carbs, not fats, because fats “take too long to digest” Horrible advice 😂 Phones died. Backup chargers died. One person blew their knee out. Night fell on them at 11,000 ft in Mud Creek Canyon, with no extra layers. They survived but barely. “We relied too much on AI rather than our own critical thinking.” You think? 😂

@Dan_Jeffries1The growing divide in AI will be the "verification problem." Were you trained to think? Did you learn to check other sources? To ask questions? To say "does this make sense? How would I know? What would tell me this is wrong? How can I check it?"
@MKBHDSo somebody tried the AI "plan me a fun trip" demo...
@DanielleFongsudo root chakra of the world. human needed. will take just five minutes
@CJHandmerIt's so hard to have a real adventure these days. Glad people are using AI to convince them to try.
