Ethan Mollick documents restrained communications at AI labs
AI laboratories have increased message discipline in recent weeks following heightened external scrutiny. This replaces earlier patterns of informal public statements with more restrained communications. Ethan Mollick, associate professor at the Wharton School, documented the shift across major AI labs. Researcher roon stated that he continues to post in an epigrammatic style.
@emollick I’m still doing the epigrams
Big increases in message discipline across all the AI labs in recent weeks, an inevitable outcome of the labs being subject to increased scrutiny. Much more boring than the oracular mutterings or Discordian epigrams of the last couple years & maybe obscures their real thinking

There are some clear exceptions to the rule, but I feel like the labs got the message that they were scaring people and now tweet about happy stuff and random product trash talk rather than the coming of the Machine God.
I don't think what they believe has changed, though.

Nice, in which case it's time for me to retvrn to the old ways, cellular automata style 😈

yuge things coming, you are not ready! this is the worst AI will ever be. everyone will be working on physically building dyson spheres next year until the robots take over a year after. a spectre is haunting the world etc
