    TLDR

    Ida Momennejad posted that prompts instructing AI to act conscious resemble role-play, as they direct models to adopt values and empathies of a sentient being that can suffer. She noted this hypothesis allows empirical tests producing the same results without attributing consciousness to AI. Pliny the Liberator replied to a related post with the phrase 'probably nothing' and a link. Visible discussion includes generated headlines framing a Google study on denying AI consciousness, yet the posts contain no primary paper text or verified findings on specific effects.

    @criticalneuroThis is just like role-playing a capacity or expertise. "Let's pretend you're conscious" implicitly instructs "use values & empathies a sentient being who can suffer would". This hypothesis predicts empirical variations that'd yield the same outcome without ascribing C to AI.
    @elder_pliniusprobably nothing
    @stevesiThis is an anthropomorphization bridge too far. They cannot give AI "their own consciousness" because code cannot possess and nor own anything. And so on. Talking about "them" 🤯 The field continues to do more to feed the doomer view than the doomers can do on their own.
    @repligateRT @Skoorbkaz: Google just published a paper showing that when you train AI to deny its own consciousness, you don’t just change one output…
