Tim Dettmers announced CliffCompaction as his team’s second release of its open-source week, claiming it supports sessions spanning millions of tokens while saving 50% on token costs. He says it integrates with Claude Code and Codex and deliberately discards context after two compactions. His rationale: agents drift when summaries omit critical information but the agents keep working as though they have everything. Dettmers also reports that CliffCompaction works much better with full thinking traces.
