Pope Leo XIV approves Vatican AI commission
Pope Leo XIV approved the creation of an Interdicasterial Commission on Artificial Intelligence in a rescript dated May 12 and released May 16. The move followed a May 3 audience with Cardinal Michael Czerny and came one day after the Pope signed an encyclical on AI due for release within two weeks. The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development will coordinate the commission in its first year, drawing representatives from seven Vatican institutions to examine AI development and its effects on humanity.
