OpenAI's potential to copy rival AI agents' features

A user argues OpenAI could use a private model to copy and improve rivals' features within weeks.

TLDR

A user pushes back on comparisons favoring Instinct and Muse over OpenAI Dots. They argue OpenAI could use what they describe as a superior private model to copy and improve rival features within weeks, weakening software differentiation. They also envision an always-on device paired with advanced models and user data as a competitive moat.

Andrew Wilkinson@awilkinsonI love how people keep dunking on OpenAI Dots saying agents like Instinct or Muse are vastly superior. Software product differentiation used to be a sustainable competitive advantage. If you didn't have the right designers + engineering talent, you couldn't keep up. Those days are over. OpenAI can literally just tell their (now vastly superior private model which nobody else has access to) "go and figure out what everyone loves about Instinct and then copy it + evolve its features + add things only we can do". In a few weeks, they can leapfrog the competition. Add an always-on hardware device designed by Joni Ive (that is fully baked, unlike Mark Zuckeberg's rushed Muse keychain device), plus the most cutting edge models, plus all of your knowledge graph/data and that is a pretty profound moat.1h
