Jürgen Schmidhuber recalls joining a 2016 AI panel unannounced

In a 2024 post, Schmidhuber recalled walking into a New York AI conference in 2016 and ending up on a panel. He says he spoke for less than 10 minutes about artificial consciousness, world models, predictive coding and science as data compression. In a 2026 quote post, another person said their long question at the end of the talk was not a setup for Schmidhuber’s joke.
