    TLDR

Kosta Derpanis, an associate professor at York University, posted a visualization of eigenfaces. He noted that the technique dominated computer vision when he began his undergraduate research. Derpanis credited foundational papers by Sirovich and Kirby along with Pentland and Turk. He also mentioned related contributions from Allan Jepson, David Fleet, Michael Black, and multidimensional extensions by AlexTensor. The post included an attached video of a dark-themed interactive display.

@CSProfKGDVisualization of the day: Eigenfaces When I started #computervision research as an undergrad, eigenfaces were the rage. The pioneering work of Sirovich & Kirby and Pentland & Turk was everywhere. So much great related work by Allan Jepson, David Fleet, @Michael_J_Black, and multidimensional extensions by @AlexTensor! A fun one to revisit.
@the_shweenzIt's hard to understate how big of a shift eigenfaces was for computer vision in 1991. It was one of the first algorithms to show you can build a model of an object using hardware everyone had. Matthew Turk was an awesome PhD advisor as well!
