Pope Leo XIV plans encyclical on artificial intelligence
Pope Leo XIV plans to sign an encyclical on artificial intelligence as soon as tomorrow. The document follows a mid-November conference at the Vatican’s Sala Clementina with executives from Meta, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI plus European politicians, faith leaders and Megan Garcia. At the event the pope called for updated data protection laws and ethical standards to address risks to children and adolescents. Separately, Tim Hwang of the Foundation for American Innovation urged creation of a frontier alignment lab.
