China requires registration for certain AI technology exports as it drafts new controls

An AI news roundup says China's commerce and science ministries published a draft revision of the export-control catalogue on October 16. It would add 40 technologies across AI, biomedicine and solar power, including 23 AI technologies; 14 are proposed for bans and 26 for restrictions. Exporters of listed technologies must register while the catalogue is revised. AI technology already released as open source or published in papers is excluded.
