OpenAI adjusts structure to integrate ChatGPT and Codex
OpenAI is adjusting its organizational structure to integrate ChatGPT and Codex development. The moves respond to evolving code generation and agent capabilities. Users have questioned whether the consumer-facing ChatGPT app and Codex product should merge into one experience. A shared interface shows a General settings panel with a new Work mode selector offering a coding option for technical responses and an everyday option that reduces technical detail while retaining core capabilities.
My hope is that they don’t combine the chatgpt app designed for casual users with codex which is designed to build software.
I'm actually surprised how rarely these big reorgs at top AI companies happen, given their pace. They seem to happen every ~6 months, which is about the same rate as traditional hypergrowth companies.
Maybe this is the limit on how much humans can deal with such change. Or, how long it takes to figure out something is broken, no matter your shipping pace.
This is inevitable direction of OpenAI org structure. And still more to go for both them and anthropic in adjusting to how codegen/agents has played out
@chrisalbon You mean like this?

My hope is that they don’t combine the chatgpt app designed for casual users with codex which is designed to build software.
