AI Policy Expert Says Talmud Study Advances Professional Progress
A Dean Ball post on X kicked off a strange, heated argument about whether Jewish legal reasoning belongs anywhere near AI governance.
In a post circulating on X, AI policy researcher Dean Ball was recirculated as saying that "there comes a time in every AI policy professional’s life when they realize they have to read the Talmud to make further progress," a line amplified by reposts from accounts including Alex Imas and xlr8harder. The argument soon spread into a more combative exchange, with teortaxesTex mocking what they called OpenAI’s "talmudmaxxing" and Ball later saying on X that the backlash had introduced a new concern: "threat of stalking."
