Our highest and most urgent national priority should be AI safeguards. The risks of AI weapons, pathogens, mass unemployment, surveillance, and even extinction must not continue to be largely ignored.
Commentators note Congress has no serious pending AI legislation.

Users rejected Mitt Romney's call for AI safeguards as a top national priority because they see Congress and DC as too corrupt, uninformed about AI, and politically compromised to legislate without worsening outcomes.
That there are no urgent hearings on Capitol Hill, no serious legislation in the pipeline, and no persistent questioning of candidates for higher office on their proposed approaches to AI is incredible given how transformative the technology is and how fast it is moving.

@jimsciutto That’s something we talk about on one of our shows @NoBullMediaGrp. The shownis called the Hinge of History and it’s an apolitical show focused on AI.

@robertwiblin Mitt Less-Wromney

@jimsciutto In fairness there’s all sorts of serious legislation in the pipeline (if you define “in the pipeline” as legislation that has been introduced). It’s the passing it that’s the challenge.

@robertwiblin Whackmirror

@jimsciutto Only a single federal law for AI is needed: That the states are barred from regulating AI in any way.

@jimsciutto How many congress members could even tell you what LLM stands for?

@robertwiblin This power was already abused.

@jimsciutto There are no serious people in DC anymore. Just corrupt criminals who line their pockets with gold.
Much of that is due to Elon Musk

@jimsciutto That’s a good thing. Congress doesn’t know squat about AI. The last thing we need is them rushing through legislation that makes everything worse.

@jimsciutto Congress is no longer in the business of governing.
But, don't lose any sleep over it. It's all just part of the normal transition from democracy to authoritarianism.

@jimsciutto @shannonrwatts Why are U shocked? 2017-20 was marred by #Trump 2020-23 was derailed by #Covid 2024-present has been the same as 1st Trump administration. Other than a few large tax bills and 1 Infrastructure, #Congress has done the bare minimum, with shutdowns, and no one calls them out on it!

@jimsciutto FRIGHTENING 🩸🩸While on Meet the Press—including a prominent exchange he famously said HE WAS UNSURE IF HE NEEDED TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION ‼️‼️‼️‼️

@jimsciutto Please explain to me that I need to have absolutely no fear that some domestic or foreign syndicate will figure out how to use AI to crack cryptocurrency and the resulting crash will put us back in the '30's.

@jimsciutto It's insane. @GOP @SpeakerJohnson @RepJamesComer @LeaderJohnThune this is what they do. Most least transparent administration ever... Gas still high, food is outrageous, TAXES THROUGH THE ROOF and so much more. They're the ones that hate America 🇺🇸

@jimsciutto This is exactly what those companies want...no oversight, then when we wake up they'll say it's too late.

@jimsciutto That is because the American system of governance has been broken by Trump and his MAGA Fascist regime. Period.
There is no responsible governance, no intelligent and well-meaning response to an historic crisis that undermines the foundations of our political-economic order.

@jimsciutto Trump’s crew think they are going to control AI and the Senate and Congress dare not try to lead on anything because they are subservient to the King.
The weakness is astounding. The great American democracy is dying.

@jimsciutto Agree 💯%. We need accountability for AI technology. It's makes all other technology look primitive. Whole new world.

@jimsciutto Hello my love ♥️♥️♥️
