Nathan Lambert advocates diverse AI approaches outside San Francisco
Nathan Lambert posted that living outside San Francisco has reduced his proximity to local AI discussions while creating space to develop independent beliefs. He called for greater diversity of approaches, or zagging, to counter uniformity that benefits established organizations. Taylor W. Killian replied with agreement on the effects of geographic distance from the dominant AI community.
Being out of SF has lowered my information proximity but with the big upside of giving me space to cultivate my own beliefs and values around ai.
We need more people zagging in AI, the monoculture just helps the incumbents win at this point.

Not that anti incumbents, but more pro diversity and lower concentration of power is good for society.
