    TLDR

A user invokes Aum Shinrikyo in an idea for an AI safety red-team organization—red-teaming being the practice of testing systems for weaknesses. The post cites the group’s Tokyo sarin attacks and claims it also bought an Australian ranch to refine uranium, tried to acquire Ebola and attempted to manufacture 1,000 AK-47s.

@menhguinAum Shinrikyo is a great proxy for what a highly-motivated sub-nation-state org could try. My bar for "is this a realistic AI risk" is "could Aum Shinrikyo pull it off today?". Unfortunately, the kind of person who could pull this off prolly couldn't/shouldn't get funded.
