Is only caring about AI after ChatGPT a fair test of how someone thinks about the technology?

A post says people have discussed superintelligence, RSI, alignment and superhuman hacking for more than a decade, and argues that much of it was clear to careful thinkers. Its author says they don’t respect the ability of people who only cared about AI after ChatGPT to think about the technology. A reply from someone who says they’ve thought about this for over a decade calls that standard “very unfair.”
