@BaconOTPeople @bscholl They rarely fail and will get to where they never do. They’re already many times safer than human drivers and will soon be exponentially so. Widespread adoption would see traffic deaths and injuries all but disappear.

I think @ATabarrok got this right in his original post. He criticized the trial lawyers, but he criticized them for what they are actually pushing for, which is the right to sue. @paulg I've talked about this before also. All the injury lawyers, the ERs and hospitals, the car mechanics, etc. AI progress may not always create more economic activity even though it's morally the right direction.
Nice side benefit of self driving cars: trial lawyers are defunded and we can have more peace and better billboards.
