    TLDR

Joshua Achiam, Chief Futurist at OpenAI and author of Spinning Up in Deep RL, posted a quote on X. He recalled that as a child the stars' indifference to Earth made every problem seem small and left room for humanity to grow. He added that if AI forecloses that possibility and we surrender our voice, the outlook changes. The post supplies no further details on mechanisms or timelines. No other sources in the packet confirm or expand the statement.

@jachiam0Growing up, I felt a curious inversion of this: that the stars were oblivious to our collective influence meant that every problem on Earth was small, and I took a powerful measure of comfort that there was so much room for us still to grow and make a mark. If that becomes foreclosed to us, if we surrender our voice and stake in the cosmic bounty, it will feel to me like a terrible loss. I am afraid of the possibility that others will not feel the loss.
