TLDR

A visitor to X Takeover says Matic's first attempt at a consumer-oriented booth was packed, and he saw several robots sold. He also recounts a disagreement about humanoids run by AI: Mehul, who makes Matic's cleaning robot, said they are years away, while the visitor thought Tesla could get there within two years.

Robert Scoble@ScobleizerI spent some time talking with and watching @mehul at the @maticrobots booth at @theXtakeover, which was way better this year due to @teslaownersSV getting really banger speakers. @NICKIMINAJ lit up the crowd here. He makes the cleaning robot that we have in our home and it is a great robot for cleaning the floors. But I learned long ago to study customers in booths, since they can tell you a lot about how fast things are being adopted. And how fast consumers are changing. This was its first attempt at a consumer-oriented booth. It was packed, but both existing customers and new ones were mixing together and the existing ones were telling them others about how much they loved theirs. I saw several get sold. Evangelistic behavior by customers grows companies. But we talked a lot about where robots are today. He says a humanoid run by all AI is years away. He thinks the problem is bigger than even Tesla can get done quickly and there is so much demand in even his own factories to fulfill before going after homes. I think Tesla could get there within two years. He says longer. But I am like Elon. A timing is often off because I want the future to happen faster and that it often takes a few years longer. And Mehul knows the robot industry deeper than anyone I know. Oh and those who buy one robot are easier to convince to buy another. Their signage was all about self-driving floor cleaning. Vision only. Totally private. Made in USA. Messages that appeal to Tesla owners. But I am encouraged. There are buyers for robots, and my past experience shows consumers change quickly once you show a better product than anyone else has. Oh and he had a part of the booth for children to play and they all loved playing with the robot. He told me he saw that early too when it was testing out prototypes and spent a lot of time making it safe for kids and babies. And cute, even. The robot industry should pay attention to Mehul. One of the best consumer products builders I have met. 2,500 Tesla fans are in Austin this weekend for X Takeover.1h
