    TLDR

The official account of the tiny corp announced that tinygrad now includes a chestnut compatible AMD BIOS flasher in extra/amdflash. The tool supports romless mode and gives full control of all 2 MB of the SPI flash. The post states that these cards would be so much more fun without all the useless boot security and that users could make them boot anything. A dark-themed terminal screenshot was attached to the announcement from the company behind the tinygrad neural network framework and tinybox AI hardware sales.

@__tinygrad__tinygrad now has a chestnut compatible AMD BIOS flasher in extra/amdflash. It supports "romless" mode which gives you full control of all 2 MB of the SPI flash. These cards would be so much more fun without all the useless boot security, you could make it boot anything.
@TeksEdge❤︎ Loving this @tinygrad eGPU dock. This isn't another cheap 100 Amazon PCIe tunneling portal. @__tinygrad__ is trying to make the GPU itself hackable. Chestnut looks deceptively simple, doesn't it? But it supports ... 🎮 Desktop GPU ↕️ PCIe Gen4 x4 🔌 USB4 💻 Laptop / mini PC Yes, you can already buy cheap adapters that do basically the same, but Chestnut has something they generally don't, programmability. It is ... 🔓 Open-source USB↔PCIe firmware 🧑‍💻 Low-level PCIe/BAR access 🔌 GPU access through USB4, and even USB3/USB2 (which the others don't) And now tinygrad has gone another layer deeper. They have new AMD flashing tools that can access the entire 2MB SPI flash on Navi31 GPUs, including a “romless” recovery mode for cards that aren't successfully booting their normal firmware. This is about opening the GPU stack. AI runtime ⬇️ GPU driver/compiler ⬇️ PCIe ⬇️ open USB↔PCIe bridge ⬇️ GPU firmware/boot flash Normal eGPU docks give you an external GPU but tinygrad wants to give you control of the GPU too. Cheap consumer GPUs become a LOT more interesting for Local AI if the community can eventually control layers AMD/NVIDIA keep locked down. Product page in ALT.
