Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A published volume 384 issue 2320 titled World models in natural and artificial intelligence. The collection examines language models and data-driven foundation models, their reliance on statistical associations rather than causal modeling of self and environment, and compares these systems to biological intelligence. It surveys approaches from agentic control to human narratives and outlines expectations for future progress. The issue is available in print.

Important theme issue on "World Models" from a variety of perspectives. It's still hard for me to extract answers to the question: Who needs world models, or, could we do without them, or, what is their computational role. @eliasbareinboim @GaryMarcus @DavidDeutschOxf @adamsafron
