Alignment Journal opens rolling submissions for research on understanding, predicting and steering AI systems

The Alignment Journal announced on Oct. 22, 2026 that submissions were open to everyone on a rolling basis. Its homepage offers a submission link, and the journal says it accepts preprints in any format. Iliad_research describes the journal as free-to-read and free-to-publish.

The journal’s stated scope is theoretical or otherwise principled analyses of agency, robustness, incentives, interpretability, generalization and long-term behavior in AI systems. It seeks work whose significance would survive the removal of any particular model, dataset or benchmark. Empirical investigations of those ideas are welcome, it says, and negative results are encouraged. The journal is especially interested in approaches that could apply to future superintelligent systems that interact and self-improve.

Under its stated review process, reviewers are paid, with bonuses for speed and insight. Review discussion is confidential, but the journal says it publishes a review summary with each accepted paper. It says each paper is judged against an acceptance bar rather than against other submissions. Papers under review are publicly listed, and researchers can nominate themselves to review; the homepage displays listings and nomination links.
