Cohere introduces North Small Translate, an open machine translation model

Cohere says North Small Translate is an open machine translation model and claims it is the world's best translation model under 1T parameters. The company says it fine-tuned the model using data focused on post-editing, error detection and terminology, then used reinforcement learning and DPO to target errors. Cohere says the WMT26 benchmarks it used were released after the model was created.
