An estimated 72% of the world’s AI compute has gone to the US since 2022

Epoch AI says its AI Chip Imports explorer uses customs records to estimate that 72% of the world’s AI compute has gone to the US since 2022, versus about 10% to China. It puts the US share of new compute at around 60% each year from 2022 to 2024, 72% in 2025 and 78% in the first half of 2026. A user says the EU has about 5% of compute while accounting for 15% of the world economy.
