    TLDR

Melanie Mitchell replied to Raphael Milliere with a hypothetical. She described building an Odysseus Bot trained on Homer's writing and given internet access to act in the world. Mitchell asked if that bot would actually have beliefs or desires that the fictional character Odysseus does not, because the character performs no actions in the world. The post presents the scenario as a question rather than a claim of fact.

@MelMitchell1@raphaelmilliere So if I build a "Odysseus Bot" trained on Homer's writing, and give it access to the internet to do stuff, does that bot actually have beliefs/desires that the fictional character Odysseus did does not (because the character doesn't do things in the world)?
@raphaelmilliere@MelMitchell1 Fictional Odysseus doesn't have any behavior to predict but acting in the world isn't sufficient either (a hurricane "does" things in the world). For the stance to succeed there has to be stable patterns in behavior that make goal/belief ascription informative & predictive. 1/4
