Apple is reportedly developing servers to sell to AI developers, businesses and governments, with two or four planned M8 Ultra chips and a possible 2029 launch. Coverage of The Information’s report says Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion is being considered to connect the processors, but neither the product nor that arrangement is final. The target is customers running trained AI models on their own equipment. Apple already uses custom servers for Private Cloud Compute; selling systems to outside customers would mark a return to a market it left when Xserve was discontinued in 2011.
