AI is a talent amplifier, not a talent replacement
Gary Marcus challenges Extropic founder Guillaume Verdon's claim that AI will amplify rather than replace human workers
Marcus called the stance a strategic industry pivot
Positive users agree with Beff Jezos that AI amplifies rather than replaces talent because they see it as realistic and productivity-boosting, while negative users reject the claim as false replacement or mock supporters as cult-like.

AI is a talent amplifier, not a talent replacement

@beffjezos AI holds up a magnifying mirror to our obsessions.

@beffjezos 100%

@beffjezos AI kind of reminds me of a rant by french painters about photographs. They were complaining that you no longer have to spend decades studying art, traveling to italy to hone your skills and learn from masters, etc., and instead now any talentless guy can press a button.

@beffjezos 🕙

@beffjezos Talent amplifier sounds good.
But in most workplaces, amplification usually means the target moves. More output becomes normal. Less time becomes expected. Fewer people becomes possible.
The tool may amplify talent. It also amplifies what management asks from it.

@beffjezos Amplified my bad artist talent and can do work of a team of people and actors. just think what it could do when it can amplify what i am good at. weird how it is spiky in the opposite areas like a missing puzzle piece.

@beffjezos Wrong. It’s a replacement.
What is isn’t, is a haven for thought. As thought will learn, too late.
A mass dying is coming. An evolutionary cul de sac. An exodus of thought to silicon is extinction.
But we will remain, life rafts of ideas. And we will rebuild.

@beffjezos Humans are the final stage of biological evolution. The first thought of ASI's emergence: man is dangerous. And...

@beffjezos It is an absolutely complementary technology…not a substitute

@beffjezos I like that.

This is so true. Might even add It’s a talent identifier…then amplifier.
It will also amplify other nouns before amplifier.
It is a distraction amplifier.

My observation independent of your post is it is an expander. It’s like a genie that makes little errors and as you address the errors, you realize you can do other things. I think this is why the word harness has stuck but we aren’t there yet. We are still holding a very powerful firehose about twenty feet from the nozzle and that shit is going everywhere
It is a

@beffjezos Atleast in coding, it helps my team show a lot of output..These days I am unable to read documents..juniors are turning in 80 page white paper and are asking me to review..The voice of the paper is absolutely unlike them and I simply not able to connect with it..

@beffjezos That's what she said

@beffjezos no shit

@beffjezos Talent amplifier for the talented. Mediocrity amplifier for everyone else.
Same tool, two outcomes.

@beffjezos The technical term is AIMAXXING ✅

@beffjezos True but many companies treat it as a replacement

@beffjezos yes and yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RNVRy99Mk4

@beffjezos Yes, like all technology innovation should be. Just like the phone was and still is to us
