OpenAI updates its Codex application with faster thread switching and position-preserved scrolling

Tons of improvements landed in Codex.

- Handles super long threads smoothly. - Hoverable navigation rail for previewing and jumping between turns that feels just right. - Settings search covers more controls, with clearer appearance and host-filtering options and easier-to-find custom-provider settings. - Zoom-level changes no longer misalign tooltips, dialogs, menus, selection bubbles, drag previews, or autocomplete. - Copying into Slack preserves Markdown formatting such as bullets, bold text, code, and links; and large text pastes no longer freeze the UI. - And most importantly: a dedicated Pets panel.

Long Codex threads now have a navigation rail.

Hover over the gutter to preview nearby turns, then click one to jump straight to that point instead of scrolling through the entire conversation.

We updated Settings search and navigation.

• Search covers more controls • Appearance controls and host filtering are clearer • Custom-provider settings are easier to find • Pets has its own panel

We also improved UI positioning when you change the Codex app’s zoom level.

Tooltips, dialogs, menus, selection bubbles, drag previews, and autocomplete now stay aligned.

More Codex app fixes:

• Thread switching does less background work, and Codex can show deeper local history without loading everything at once.

• Archived chats are easier to scroll through and delete.

• Dock and sidebar unread badges stay in sync.

Copy from Codex. Paste into Slack. Keep the Markdown.

Bullets, bold text, code, and links now preserve their formatting.

Large blocks of pasted text no longer hang the UI. Draft text survives thread handoff, and pasted image previews support arrow-key navigation.

It's not glorious work, and it certainly doesn't deserve headlines, but I'm still really proud to work on making the app feel a lot more polished and stable. So many people, myself included, live in it all day every day, and we want to do our best for those people.

@OpenAIDevs Thanks for the smoother long-thread scrolling in Codex! This will make debugging marathon sessions way less frustrating.

@OpenAIDevs Awesome! Thanks for quality of life updates! Codex definitely needs some more of these with managing large threads and a lot of threads! It tends to struggle a bit with lots of large threads even on an M4 Pro with 64 GB of RAM.

@OpenAIDevs Awesome. I am bit frustrated few days back. It’s very hard to navigate. Thankfully you guys fixed the problem. Consider this for all the chat sessions and devices if possible.

@OpenAIDevs This is great! Will you add functionality for moving chat sessions to a project, or one project to another? I’ve created a workaround with a skill but a bit clunky.

One bit of feedback on the scrolling: I wonder if some sort of "table of contents compaction" would help make nav easier.

I'm having a hard time finding stuff with the current tooltips.

When I open the terminal on my 13" laptop, I need it to take the whole screen to be useful.
