Claude reportedly solves a nine-loop calculation in a simplified particle physics model
Anthropic says Claude worked largely unsupervised for days using established methods, at a total cost of a few thousand dollars. Physicist Lance Dixon independently verified the result, the company says.
TLDR
Anthropic says Claude completed a nine-loop scattering-amplitude calculation in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills, a simplified model physicists use as a testing ground. The company describes loops as increasingly fine corrections that improve precision but demand exponentially more computation; the previous record in this model was eight loops.
Given a single prompt, Claude ran largely unsupervised for days in Claude Science using methods developed by SLAC physicist Lance Dixon and colleagues, Anthropic says. It puts the total cost at a few thousand dollars and says Dixon independently verified the result.
A reply shifts the focus to reproducibility, asking whether another team can rerun the workflow and get the same result.
