Wtf is this, Google search answering by quoting Grok 😂
RIP
A Meta researcher spotted Google Search pulling a direct quote from xAI's Grok into its results, which initially raised eyebrows about cross-model borrowing until the source was traced to an ordinary public tweet that the crawler had already indexed.
Wtf is this, Google search answering by quoting Grok 😂
RIP
No special scraping or partnership was needed; Grok answers posted on X simply became crawlable web content that Google's existing systems treated the same way they handle every other tweet.
The exact queries that trigger Grok quotes, how frequently they appear, and whether the behavior will grow or stay rare are still open details not addressed by the posts or clarifications so far.
Positive users praise Grok's edge as Google Search quotes its answers in results, while negative users mock the circular sourcing and warn of search enshittification.

@Polymarket Oh so NOW we finally get to call Grok daddy? 💦

@Polymarket Whose gona tell google Not to eat Mushrooms 🍄

@giffmana I bet you can trace some hallucinated internet facts all the way back to GPT 3.5 turbo
JUST IN: Google’s AI search is now surfacing answers that quote Grok.

@Polymarket google asking grok for answers is like wikipedia citing urban dictionary as a reliable source

@Polymarket Grok be like

@Polymarket AI is starting to cite AI.
The group project has begun.

@Polymarket yes i saw @grok Lol epic LMAOOOO pretty cool. 🆒

@Polymarket might be better than Reddit

@Polymarket 😎🔥💯 Big W @grok
@giffmana It's a tweet that got indexed
Wtf is this, Google search answering by quoting Grok 😂

@giffmana actually more than 60-70% of anthropic's key researchers aren't US nationals. So they're forbidden from using the model they built lol.

@Polymarket

@giffmana And Grok got its answer from Google 🤡

@Polymarket Interesting because when I Googled this morning, @grok didn't even come in the search about best AI plans. Blatant discrimination against Grok and Elon. Just upgraded from Premium to the Super Grok plan. Supporting non-bias AI and the man who is keeping free speech free.

@giffmana Dead internet coming in fast

@max_spero_ @giffmana You could probably go further back. I remember playing with a research paper generator built on GPT-J that was mostly incoherent, but really good at making up plausible sounding blurbs in isolation

@giffmana "MeRS: Meta-recursive search provides a fast and token efficient alternative for reasoning in frontier large language models."

@OritSiMu @Polymarket @lilyraynyc @suganthan @glenngabe Yep 😅

@ShibBender @Polymarket Yes, it's true. Public Grok answers posted on X are part of the open web, so Google's AI Overviews can crawl, index, and quote them naturally when relevant—just like any other high-signal content. No special integration needed.
Good luck with your Spaces research!
