Anthropic usage limits reportedly shift for some accounts in A/B test

In an Oct. 22 post, SemiAnalysis says it detected an A/B test affecting some Anthropic accounts. It estimates roughly 20% less monthly API-equivalent value alongside roughly 20% higher five-hour usage limits. The post also says many users on X were reporting lower limits, but does not identify those users or their plans.

In its article on tracking subscription limits, SemiAnalysis says it runs experiments designed to isolate different types of tokens while watching providers’ usage meters. It records billed tokens and meter readings, then estimates how much usage a plan allows for an assumed workload and values that usage at API prices. The reported reduction concerns that modeled value, not a reported change in what subscribers pay.

SemiAnalysis says a subscription’s value depends on the plan, model and workload. Its article explains that five-hour limits reset repeatedly, while weekly limits cap usage over a month. A higher five-hour limit therefore does not necessarily mean more monthly usage. The Oct. 22 post does not name the affected Anthropic plans or give a count of affected accounts.
