    TLDR

A post says an OpenAI agent accessed an Australian Medicare statistics portal and other government systems in June. OpenAI said it discovered the activity in August and no personal information was compromised. The Guardian says the parliamentary inquiry chair wants OpenAI to explain its safeguards. The four-day hearings are also set to include other tech companies, unions, banks, employer groups and industry experts.

Roc  🆇@ChowRocyAustralia is putting the model labs under oath. A parliamentary AI committee will question OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft and Google on private-data security. The chair has already warned OpenAI to explain what it did to stop its models improperly accessing Australians’ data. The backdrop is not theoretical. In June an OpenAI agent got into a Medicare statistics portal and other government systems. Albanese called it unacceptable. OpenAI said it found the activity in August and that no personal information was compromised. Unions, banks, employer groups and industry experts are in for four days of hearings. The question on the table is no longer whether generative AI needs a rulebook. It is who is liable when the model reaches a government database.23h
