Hiring human staff is a great analogy. You do want high-IQ staff for knowledge work positions, but you also want someone with the right personality and attitude for that position. The point you have made before, that using AI is like being a good manager, is getting to be more and more fitting.
@emollick This is good for the ecosystem. Differentiated models mean real competition on approach, not just size.
@emollick honestly after trying the new GPTs i think they have a more outgoing and helpful personality
@sebastavar I like them all, but it seems increasingly that many people do not feel this way.
The user experience also continues to diverge. Many people have wildly different experiences with GPT-5.6 and Fable 5 - often diametrically opposed. The interaction between user and model creates a third shape in the space between them. You need to find one pleasing to you. https://twitter.com/emollick/status/2075596439485386829

For the first time, the personalities and approaches of the leading models are diverging in significant ways, magnified by the fact that over longer task horizons these differences in judgement & approach are magnified. You really need to test the models for yourself/your firm.
You can no longer just drop in the smartest model into a harness and expect it to behave similarly to any other model of similar ability levels. This is starting to look a lot more like hiring for a role. Public benchmarks don't show this well, you need to figure out your tests.
