OpenAI and Broadcom’s Jalapeño chip gets a special mention on TIME’s 2026 Best Inventions list

TIME gave Jalapeño, OpenAI’s first custom AI chip, a special mention on its 2026 Best Inventions list. TIME says OpenAI designed it from the ground up and Broadcom produced it to power the LLM behind tools like ChatGPT and Codex. OpenAI says the chip is designed to bring useful AI to more people more efficiently. TIME discloses a licensing and technology agreement with OpenAI.
