    TLDR

    Arena.ai, the company behind community LLM evaluations, announced it chose seven projects for the Spring 2026 cohort. Named recipients include Emmanuel Candès at Stanford for work on pairwise human preference data and Haifeng Xu at the University of Chicago for studies on predictive capabilities. The selection ties to Arena's Academic Partnerships Program, which invites proposals from U.S. tenure-track faculty on topics such as AI evaluation, measurement, human preference, safety, and alignment.

    @arenaAnnouncing the Fall 2026 cycle of @arena's Academic Partnerships Program. We're accepting new proposals from tenure-track faculty at U.S. universities working on the scientific foundations of AI evaluation: evaluation and ranking methodology, measurement and validity, learning from human preference, and safety and alignment. Funding of up to $50,000 per project is available, and we'll continue reviewing submissions twice a year, each Spring and Fall. Congratulations to our first Spring 2026 cohort of 7 selected research projects! Head to the thread to see who was selected, learn more about the program, and find out how to submit your own proposal for Fall.
    @ml_angelopoulosIf you are an academic studying the foundations of AI Evaluation, we'd love to work with you.
    @tallinzenThanks @arena for your support for this project, designed and led by @ravfogel! There's a lot of interest in the field in evaluating LLMs' ability to reflect on their own thoughts, but it's tricky to get the evaluation paradigms right - we're planning to try!
    @wsisaacVery exciting!
