Yi Tay says AI research and engineering roles are merging
@agihippo RS/RE/SWE is such a weird split by now. It should be all R
Every one just being MTS or RS/RE is probably the way to go in this new AI world. Also can't believe at one point RS used to signal something different from SWE or RE 😂
Tweets like that are from people who don't understand what it means to love working on technology. MTS is the best job in the history of humanity!
Let's not forget the applied scientist title. It is the most fun one.
I was once introduced on Slack as “senior as” (at some prior employer). I kid you not, this was the line.
Thoughts in my head: ah yes, after all these years, I finally became a senior a$$.

@PMinervini FIY 😅

@PMinervini I think ASs are effectively research engineers.
@srchvrs also in my experience many (most?) amazing research outputs from industry come from REs

I've had all of these, plus AS and just S, but most of my SWE jobs weren't "researchy". Anyways, I am all about unification of titles. Even more importantly I would abolish fine-grained hierarchies. That said, there's still a line between people who mostly deploy code and people who mostly do research.

I don't get the obsession with job titles (vs one's ability to deliver)
