Microsoft plans to deploy Maia AI chips at multi-gigawatt scale starting in 2027

The Decoder reports, citing Microsoft executive Scott Guthrie, that the company plans to deploy Azure Maia AI chips at multi-gigawatt scale starting in 2027 and make them its main inference system across products. Maia 200 already runs Copilot in the US, Europe and Australia. Its successor, Maia 300, is due in 2027; Microsoft claims it will deliver 40 percent more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU systems.
