    TLDR

A builder says they open-sourced a desk-based voice AI agent on October 9, 2026. It links an ESP32 desk robot to a Hermes agent through xiaozhi-server, with Parakeet speech recognition and Kokoro text-to-speech running locally. The builder says it can manage Google Tasks and reminders by voice, give spoken progress updates, ask aloud before risky commands and stay in the conversation until the user says “bye.”

Vineeth Kalluru@vineethkalluruI did something similar and open sourced it today! @Teknium @jaita I wanted a fully local voice AI agent sitting on my desk. Two problems: • Hermes agent wasn't built to be a speech gateway • ESP Vocat wasn't ready for local AI deployment out of the box So I plumbed the two together, cleaned up every rough edge, and added the features I actually wanted: 🔔 Wake and sleep chimes 🗣️ Talks while it works ("Searching the web…", "Still on it") ✅ Google Tasks + reminders by voice 🤖 Background helpers and goal agents that report back when done 🛑 Asks out loud before running risky commands 👂 Stays in the conversation until you say "bye" Stack: ESP32 desk robot → xiaozhi-server (Parakeet ASR + Kokoro TTS, all local) → any Hermes agent http://github.com/dreamhunter02/jarvis-desk-bot1h
