America.gov launches AI answers for government information

The service is operated by the General Services Administration, according to its how-it-works page. It says answers draw on official federal, state and local websites and include links to original sources. Finding answers does not require an account.

The site advertises step-by-step guidance, help understanding uploaded PDFs of government forms or letters, questions in English, Spanish or French, and voice input. Its FAQ warns that AI can make mistakes and tells visitors to check the cited sources before making an important decision.

There is a clear limit on application tracking today. The FAQ says America.gov cannot access agency records or see applications a visitor has submitted. It can instead point people to the responsible agency’s official status-checking tool.

Broader services are planned for 2027. The site says those would let visitors complete forms, track progress and organize information in one place, going beyond the answers it offers now.

Supplied roundup posts describing Trump’s announcement say the proposed White House group would coordinate federal AI policy, with Jay Clayton named to lead it and other officials listed in one summary.
