    TLDR

Creator Kim Isenberg posted about hearing rumors of substantial capability gains across models still in development at both OpenAI and Anthropic, including claims that context and memory issues have been resolved. Tech journalist Alex Heath retweeted a report that Sam Altman told TIME OpenAI will reach AGI by the end of this year, along with mentions of an automated research intern. The posts present these as circulating claims rather than confirmed announcements from the companies.

@kimmonismusI’m currently hearing countless rumors about just how significant the leap in capabilities will be with the models that have yet to be released. The gains are said to be substantial across the board, at both OpenAI and Anthropic. There are also persistent rumors that context and memory have been “solved,” along with reports of self-improving models capable of continual learning. Of course, these are all just rumors. But given how optimistic and bullish these companies have been (and how cautiously firms such as OpenAI have recently acted, delaying releases in response to tectonic shifts in capabilities) there may be more to this than mere speculation. Caveat: These are only rumors and things I’ve heard from sources. I have no evidence. I’m writing about them this openly because the reports are becoming increasingly frequent, including from usually reliable people such as @AndrewCurran_ , @synthwavedd and @ChrisGPT . But im pretty sure big things are coming.
@TaylorLorenz“I expect this will be the first model where the model actually invents new things in a way that matters,” Altman told the group. “That’s a very AGI-like thing.” https://time.com/article/2026/08/26/openai-sam-altman-interview/
