Apple launches Siri AI, a conversational assistant featuring onscreen awareness, Visual Intelligence, and personal context retrieval
Story Overview
Apple is finally shipping the conversational overhaul it first teased in 2024, rebranding the assistant as Siri AI and giving it onscreen awareness plus the ability to pull personal context from messages, photos, and calendars without extra prompting. The update also adds Visual Intelligence for camera and screen understanding, with a dedicated app and more expressive voice options arriving alongside iOS 27 this fall.
The demo that pulled private messages on stage
One live example showed Siri locating a door code sent in Messages without the user remembering the exact thread, highlighting the new personal-context retrieval in action.
Not every supported device gets the full set
The highest-capability tier of the two-tiered models is limited to premium hardware such as iPhone 17 Pro models and M4+ iPads with at least 12 GB RAM, while earlier devices miss features like the most expressive voice.
Positive users praised Apple's upgraded Siri AI for substantial fluid context-aware features while negative users called it useless or a snooze fest and objected to regional unavailability.

Interesting: New Apple Intelligence Siri only available on iPhone 17 Pro.
Of course not be available in the EU (god damn)
Apple Intelligence sounds like a very good update. But did I miss all the relevant (nerd) stuff like paramters, evals in benchmarks and what not? Hopefully on their website

- System wide awareness - Visual Intelligence in Camera App

Siri update
- image understanding - more conversational - reworked voice-tone / sound. Sounds real human
OK, the AI features are almost wholly aimed at consumers who don't know what an OpenClaw or Hermes is. Or have tried the new @TownAI, @wabi, or @interaction's Poke.
It touches very lightly on things that could take away people's privacy. Like looking at your screen. Others, like @FarzaTV's Clicky or @cluely dive deeply into that side of the pool that Apple is afraid of popping in.
Very few words about glasses, or Apple Vision Pro. This was all about a rebuilt Siri. Which is great for everyday users (most of my family and friends who aren't in AI world will be thrilled to get them).
Watching it I realized just how far ahead of the world X's AI community is. If you want to get ahead, follow everyone here: https://x.com/scobleizer/lists
And I'll have my AI write up a report from all that at https://alignednews.com/ai

@tim_cook Not coming to the EU is a massive fail!

@ijustine Hope it actually works

google and apple both still bafflingly behind in product here. what is going on?

On a related note, I wrote about Tim Cook’s 15-year CEO run.
The good (Watch, AirPods, Apple Silicon), the bad (supply chain risk, Apple Car, Siri doing nothing for 15 years) and the Apple Intelligence. https://www.readtrung.com/p/tim-cooks-apple?r=hapok&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

@kimmonismus me having a 17 pro in the EU

@tim_cook Tim thank you for this amazing product announcement
I can’t wait for my Apple Intelligence powered iBidet

@tim_cook would love to have it available for my iPhone 16 Pro Max, which was built from the ground up for AI, as promised

Siri AI is REAL. New app. Voice sliders. Visual Intelligence. Writes with you.
#AppleIntelligence now touches Safari, Messages, Mail, Calendar, Home & Shortcuts. They didn't ship a chatbot. They shipped an OS that thinks.
#WWDC26 just changed the game.
@grok Behind the scenes at WWDC 2026: What's #Apple NOT saying about Siri AI? What are the real technical constraints, licensing deals, or model partnerships they're quietly depending on to make Apple Intelligence work at scale?

Yes, Gemini is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
Apple and Google announced in January that the next-gen Apple Foundation Models are based on Gemini models + cloud tech. That’s what’s powering the upgraded, more personalized Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
Apple keeps the on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for privacy, but the core intelligence foundation comes from Gemini.

@tim_cook @grok add Survivor pockets Australia / Oceania Continent 70

@ijustine the guy laughing at the end sums it up

Photo reframing is a terrific upgrade You can use Spatial Reframing to adjust a photo after capturing it. Utilize the Extend tool to broaden your images. Employ the improved Clean Up tool to eliminate even bigger objects.

Real iPhone AGI would mean:
An iPhone that can book things, write posts, edit videos, code small apps, manage your day, answer from your personal context, automate tasks across apps, negotiate emails, build shortcuts, debug your phone, and maybe even create mini tools from voice prompts.
That would be the real Apple leap - not a smarter Siri, a private personal operating intelligence.

@tim_cook Bitch, go spend your billions, you are not Tim Apple anymore. Just regular old boring Tim nobody gives a shit about.

@tim_cook It's worse than in 2024... and it's still in beta 😅

Im referring to the on-device model! sorry for confusion
