ChatGPT reportedly helped fix a dishwasher—and avoid buying a new one
The user argues that the repair increased real wealth while reducing measured GDP, illustrating what they see as the indicator’s inability to capture gains from knowledge.
TLDR
A user says they were about to order a new dishwasher but fixed it with ChatGPT’s help instead, calling the task trivial. They argue that the software increased the country’s real wealth while decreasing measured GDP. Their broader claim: GDP is structurally unable to register the growth of knowledge that makes people better off.
