a16z Crypto becomes a16z Frontier with a wider investment mandate

Crypto is not being dropped from the investment plan. Dixon wrote that the fund will continue investing in crypto and related ventures and advocating for sensible crypto regulation.

Dixon argued that the boundary between crypto and other technology businesses has blurred as Wall Street and fintech companies launch products built on blockchains. In his view, what a company does matters more than the technologies it uses.

AI is one area Dixon highlighted. He wrote that a16z is especially interested in new products and markets enabled by AI, including networks connecting people and intelligent agents. He called these ideas “examples, not boundaries.”

Dixon wrote that he will lead the fund alongside a16z founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz and general partners Eddy Lazzarin and Guy Wuollet.
