    TLDR

One commenter warns that simple design-space tiling would be too easy to game and suggests working demonstrations for some patent filings and trial standards for drugs, while preserving incentives to bring new things to market. A respondent favors reducing patent surface area, arguing that execution matters more in most markets and AI could lower investment and development costs, making patents less relevant in many cases.

xlr8harder@xlr8harderI'm still of the opinion that we should be reducing patent surface area anyway. Execution matters more, in most markets, and it's what we should reward. There are some cases where it matters, but I think AI will be making many of them less relevant over time by decreasing investment and development cost, and I'm not convinced we should keep them on life support with patents, or that if we want to keep them on life support that patents are the best tool.1h
bayes@bayeslord@xlr8harder It’s hard to know a priori where bottlenecks will be and we want good incentives around eg clinical trials54m
