    TLDR

Timnit Gebru posted that tech journalists should tell readers the current cycle of alarm over AI models proving more powerful than imagined for cybersecurity warfare is really about Anthropic and OpenAI competing for lucrative defense contracts. The packet identifies Gebru as a computer scientist and AI ethics researcher known for work on algorithmic bias who co-founded Black in AI. Her statement appears as one tweet containing emphatic phrasing and an emoji. The evidence packet supplies no further posts, replies, or independent confirmations of the claim.

@timnitGebruIf tech journalists we’re doing their jobs, they would inform us that current *OH NOOO our models are more powerful for cybersecurity warfare than we imagined & we’re so scared of what they can do😱 cycle is about Anthropic & OpenAI competing for lucrative defense contracts.
@atoherbert@timnitGebru Hi Timnit, I have posted this news clip from the computer chronicles a few times. The story was exactly the same in 1987, looking towards the military spending big on “stars wars” to bail them out. These shameless AI grifters keep running the same fear play.
