    TLDR

Elon Musk stated that Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series was a major influence along with the fall of Rome. These convinced him that consciousness must extend beyond Earth to avoid a potentially infinite dark age. The comments appear in a post identifying Musk as founder and CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. Investor Scott Belsky responded by noting that sci-fi writers hold responsibility to help imagine and navigate possible futures.

@elonmuskAsimov’s Foundation series was a major influence on me. That and the fall of Rome, from which Foundation takes inspiration, is what convinced me that we need to extend consciousness beyond Earth to avoid a potentially infinite dark age.
@scottbelskyif sci-fi is a prototype for the future, then writers have such an opportunity / responsibility to help us navigate and imagine…
@pronounced_kyleThe universe bends toward well-articulated futures. This is why optimistic sci-fi is so important, and doomers are so dangerous.
