OpenAI launches ChatGPT personal finance preview for Pro users
OpenAI introduced a preview of a personal finance experience inside ChatGPT for a limited group of Pro users in the United States. The feature uses Plaid to connect bank, brokerage, and credit card accounts and shows consolidated dashboards with spending breakdowns, investment allocations, and payment schedules. Users can ask natural-language questions about balances, transactions, subscriptions, and portfolios. Visualizations include donut charts for holdings and line graphs for year-to-date spending. Supported institutions include American Express, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, E*TRADE, Fidelity, and Robinhood. The system does not access full account numbers or allow transfers. An Intuit integration for tax tasks is planned.

“Help me save money” is one of the core benefits people hope to get out of AI. With this launch we’re making this super easy. Similar to what we did for Health by letting you connect your health records, you can now do the same for financial records so ChatGPT can have the full picture and give you more informed answers.

@omooretweets yeah we noticed this, our connection rates are insanely high.
So many people do not understand this - and it is core to consumer software👇 Gen Z and beyond does not care about data privacy as long as a product delivers for them Bank accounts, contact book, email access, camera roll, etc. - they will gladly give it up
@BorisMPower Cool

It’s the beginning of the end for consumer facing finance firms. If you’re selling a high expense load ETF, these AI tools will eventually channel your customer to Vanguard. Similarly credit cards, insurance, home loans etc. Some of the highest value searches on Google.

ChatGPT is just reading your finance s data…. wait till it starts writing… shifting you into lower cost index funds, transferring balances on credit cards to enjoy the interest free period, moving CDs to banks with higher rates..
You think they’re going after fintech naw they’re going after all consumer facing finance..
But wait, they’re not done yet.. because financial firms are also some of the largest advertisers.. so if Chat starts allocating funds… those ad dollars disappear.
So OpenAI literally kill*d many fintech startups today

You connect your bank accounts via Plaid, get a spending dashboard, and can ask GPT-5.5 questions grounded in your actual transaction data - balances, spending patterns, subscriptions, investments.
It can't see full account numbers or move money. Intuit integration is coming for things like tax estimates and credit card applications.
Financial memories store context like savings goals across conversations.
Plus users get it later, free tier eventually. They built an internal benchmark with 50+ finance professionals and say GPT-5.5 Thinking scores 79/100, GPT-5.5 Pro 82.5/100 on complex personal finance tasks.

@BorisMPower This looks amazing. I am especially excited about the idea of this reaching every user I think of what a financial advisor like this could’ve done for a lot of of my friends when they were just starting out.
