Google says its Gemini app has reached more than 900 million users after the base more than doubled over the past year

So Gemini has about as much usage as ChatGPT? 🤔

@iScienceLuvr weird. I mostly stopped using it a while ago. hallucinates too much, and does not do too well on coding.

@iScienceLuvr I don’t believe it. I’ve yet to see a genuine Gemini app user in the wild. Gemini api user - sure, but Gemini App user? Maybe in other parts of the world they do well

@iScienceLuvr I wonder if they count AI mode on Google search and Android built in Gemini. It’s a great product, but I have a hard time believing that is has this many active users

@notagingerguy @iScienceLuvr you need to google “anecdotal evidence” and come back then. In Europe for example Gemini is very strong

@fchollet Gemini’s reliance on massive parameter scaling is a dead end. Within 18 months, small, high-quality synthetic data models will outperform it in reasoning tasks.

@iScienceLuvr I think Gemini is quite popular in India because they had (or still have) a higher free usage limit and cheaper offers

@fchollet I mean surely 1/8 of the worlds population isn't using the Gemini app every month. That's hard to believe to be honest
