    TLDR

Jean-Denis Greze, co-founder and CEO of TownAI, stated that about 90 percent of what Town can do could be built in Claude with enough time. He added that connecting Claude directly to email produces nothing close to TownAI performance. According to the post, Claude fails to write in the user's voice and sends emails when it should not. Greze described the two as not even in the same ballpark for ready-to-use personal assistant work.

@jgrezeAbout 90% of what Town can do, you could technically build yourself in Claude with enough time. Out of the box though, if you connect Claude to your email, you get nothing close to Town. It's not even in the same ballpark. It doesn't write in your voice. It'll send an email when it's not supposed to. It doesn't really know how to manage your calendar. Now, could you sit there and write skills, build a bunch of workflows, and get Claude to approximate Town? Yeah. You could. It would take work. Not forever-work, but 3-4 hours to get started, and probably 30m a week just to keep things on-track. And you'd still be missing things like the draft email UI, the text messaging integration, WhatsApp, and how all of it works across your email and calendar. One of our users put this better than me. He tried Town after initially thinking he could recreate most of it himself in Claude: "Could I spend my time recreating most of the functionality myself? Perhaps. Would it be as good? No. Would it get the job done? Maybe." That's basically it. There's stuff we can do that you don't get out of the box with Claude. There's stuff in Claude that we don't do. Their artifacts are more flexible than ours. They just are. But then you get into the UI and the UX and how it's integrated with your phone and WhatsApp and your calendar and email. All those little details make it a very different product. If all you do is code or spreadsheets all day, Claude Code or Cowork is totally fine. If your work is in email and calendar, that's what we built Town for.
