The Atlantic sparks debate by calling generative AI an engineering disaster

The Atlantic AI article is really terrible, and the core of why is that the author seems to legitimately think that we’re all using LLMs because of Silicon Valley navel-gazing and not because ***they are the only thing we’ve discovered which works***.

This article had me thinking about Gell-Mann Amnesia this morning. The combination of misunderstanding and editorializing wrapped in unfounded confidence is absurd. I expect better from the Atlantic.… Show more
